The Authors Guild announced that it has elected journalist Nick Taylor to the position of president, replacing Letty Cottin Pogrebin, the outgoing— and outspoken— author, who had held that spot for four years. In a statement, Taylor said he would continue looking at how new technologies change the role of authors and investigate ways in which the Guild might address these changes. He also hopes to expand services for members.

During her tenure, Pogrebin was instrumental in heightening the Guild's profile on such issues as consolidation and freelance payments. She helped lead the lobbying charge on such issues as Bertelsmann's purchase of Random House and the Barnes & Noble-Ingram merger.
