Andrea Davis Pinkney, editorial director of Hyperion Books for Children, has been named v-p and publisher of Houghton Mifflin's children's division. She will join HM June 1, and will work out of the company's New York office.

Pinkney had been editorial director at Hyperion since January 2001; previously she had been executive editor of Hyperion's Jump at the Sun imprint, which she founded in 1998. Before coming to Hyperion, she was an editor at Simon & Schuster Books for Young Readers. She is also author of several picture books and novels for children.

The position of children's publisher at Houghton Mifflin had been vacant since last May, when Anita Silvey left the company.
