An author who began with a well-received memoir, A Girl Named Zippy, and went on to write The Solace of Leaving Early, a first novel that was a big Book Sense choice this summer, has followed her Doubleday editor to the Free Press. Senior editor Amy Scheibe signed for Haven Kimmel's two new novels with agent Bill Clegg at Burnes & Clegg. Kimmel writes about her native Indiana in both her fiction and nonfiction, and her next novel, the second in a planned trilogy, tells of a young girl who becomes a pool hustler in tribute to the memory of her father. It was a North American hard/soft deal, the first book to be published in autumn 2003.
