While many comedians and humorists have successfully written fiction, has any successful novelist made it on the comedy circuit? The inspiration for this query is the second bestseller by humor columnist Dave Barry. Tricky Business hits the PW charts at #14 and Putnam reports more than 157,000 copies in print. Back in 1999, his first fiction, Big Trouble, was launched with a 125,000 printing and had a six-week run on the PW list. True to form, Barry's tour has drawn packed crowds (1,200 at the Smithsonian in D.C.) and, according to associate director of publicity Michael Barson, "thousands of innocent attendees were left literally (though not figuratively) gasping for air while doubled over in paroxysms of laughter for dangerously extended periods of time."
