A lavishly produced book enshrining former President Jimmy Carter's acceptance speech for his Nobel Peace Prize will be rushed out right after the December 10 ceremony in Oslo so it can be in stores before Christmas. Simon & Schuster, whose Alice Mayhew bought the project from Lynn Nesbit at Janklow & Nesbit, has been Carter's publisher on his last two bestselling books, the memoirs An Hour Before Daylight and Christmas in Plains. Carter and the agent will both forgo their fees, making the money available instead for the philanthropic doings of the Carter Center in Atlanta. Ironically, the book will contain a brief personal introduction by President Bush, whose policy of war on Iraq was implicitly criticized by the Nobel committee in its award to Carter.
