Eckhart Tolle's The Power of Now was published by New World Library in hardcover in 1999. Jumping from sales of 7,500 copies in 1999 to 100,000 copies in 2000, and then to 120,000 copies in 2001, it was on track to sell 175,000 copies in 2002. That all changed on November 25, with Oprah's annual program showcasing her favorite holiday gifts. One of her favorites was The Power of Now. New World Library had printed 200,000 additional copies in anticipation of Oprah. It was not enough. They had to go back to press for another 100,000, bringing the in-print total to 750,000 copies in the U.S. alone.
