Bookstore sales fell 2.9% in October, to $1.10 billion, according to estimates from the U.S. Census Bureau. Sales for the entire retail sector dipped 0.6% in the month. For the first 10 months of 2002, bookstore sales were up 2.8%, to $13.69 billion, while sales for all of retail increased 3.4%.
