Former Harry N. Abrams publisher Mark Magowan has taken a majority stake in Vendome Press, a 30-year-old publishing house specializing in illustrated books on art, architecture, travel and lifestyle. Magowan will take over as president of Vendome Press. Alexis Gregory, who founded Vendome Press, will become chairman.

Vendome publishes about 15 titles a year. The house will switch its distribution from Rizzoli to Abrams beginning June 1. Vendome will also add a new line of nonfiction books under the editorial direction of Magowan that will be focused on art, culture and the humanities. Among the titles slated to be released this year are Paris City of Art by Jean-Marie Permuse de Montclos and The Great Private Collections of Imperial Russia by Oleg Neverov.

In addition, Vendome will move its offices to the Sotheby's Building, headquarters of the well-known auction house on the Upper East Side of New York City.
