Pulitzer Prize—winning journalist Haynes Johnson has signed for a new book with Harcourt, a study of the legacy of the McCarthy era and the ways in which it has shaped American life into the terrorist-shadowed present. It's called The Age of Anxiety: McCarthyism to Terrorism and will be under the James H. Silberman imprint. Publisher Andre Bernard bought it for six figures from Philippa Brophy at Sterling Lord Literistic, taking U.S. and Canada plus first serial and book club rights.
