New York Newsday'sMatthew McAllester had been reporting from Baghdad for a month before he was arrested by Iraqi security forces as a suspected spy and thrown in the dreaded Abu Ghraib prison until he was released by the invading U.S. forces. He will tell his story, and that of many long-imprisoned Iraqis, in a book tentatively called Blinded by the Sunlight: Emerging from the Prison of Iraq. HarperCollins executive editor David Hirshey preempted the book with a strong six-figure bid to agent Flip Brophy at Sterling Lord Literistic and plans to publish next spring.
