A sixth new fiction almost made the list this week: a well-reviewed debut novel by Alisa Valdes-Rodriguez, The Dirty Girls Social Club. St. Martin's reports 125,000 copies in print, plus an additional 10,000 copies of a translation in Spanish in trade paper, El Club Social de las Muchachas Temerarias. The author is on a 13-city tour through June 6 and she will be stopping in L.A. for BEA appearances. National TV exposure and the advertising and marketing are aimed primarily at the readership for the book in English, but editor Elizabeth Beier notes that the house is "confident the Spanish version is going to do well—both initially and in the long haul—and putting it out at a lower price point was another way to get a wedge into this growing market."
