A first novel by a young Indian woman living—and studying writing—in California, who has been a writer of soap operas in Bombay, was won in a heated auction involving six bidders by Morrow's Lyssa Keusch. It's called Goddess for Hire, and author Sonia Singh is said to have written a kind of Indian Big Fat Greek Wedding, involving the extended comic family of a Los Angeles Indian woman who claims to be the reincarnation of the goddess Kali, and who believes she can save the world from destruction. Keusch won with a six-figure bid for two books to agent Kim Whalen at Trident Media Group, who reports strong interest already overseas.
