The Rowman & Littlefield Publishing Group continued building its list by acquiring small companies last week when it picked up Burnham Publishers. Based in Chicago, Burnham publishes college textbooks in the humanities and social sciences. R&L has closed Burnham's Chicago office, and the company's list will be integrated into the Rowman & Littlefield imprint. Burnham has a backlist of 150 titles as well as 25 textbooks under production. R&L publisher Jonathan Sisk said the acquisition will accelerate the publisher's growth in political science and communication, two of R&L's most important fields.
