A remarkable memoir of addiction and recovery, A Million Little Pieces by James Frey was one of the year's surprise hits, and now the author has moved, with editor Sean McDonald, from Nan Talese's Doubleday imprint to Riverhead, which will publish a sequel. The new book is called My Friend Leonard and covers the further life of the mobster who helped keep Frey away from booze and drugs in the earlier book, developing a kind of father-son relationship to the author. The world English rights deal for the new book was signed with Kassie Evashevski at the Brillstein-Grey agency, and it will be published in early 2005. Meanwhile Warner Bros. has bought Pieces for the movies.
