Authors, zinesters, comic artists, and slam poets are expected to converge during the literary arts segment of Bumbershoot, the Seattle urban arts festival now in its 33rd year. The fee-based festival, which runs August 29—September 1, takes place at Seattle Center, the 74-acre site of the 1962 World's Fair, and features more than 500 acts on 20 stages. New to the literary arts portion of the fair this year is the Starbucks Ink Spot, created to showcase zines, visual diaries, cyber-poetry, spoken word and book arts, in addition to zine workshops and readings by zinesters and underground writers from all over the country. Also on the schedule are a Heavyweight Poetry Bout between Andrei Codrescu and Sheri-D Wilson, and readings by authors Philip Wohlstetter and Augusten Burroughs.
