The U.K.—based Macmillan Publishing Group has reached an agreement to acquire the educational publishing list of Ediciones Castillo, one of Mexico's largest Spanish-language textbook publishers. Founded in 1977, Ediciones Castillo publishes curriculum-based textbooks for the school market, and also has a trade line, which it will retain.

Macmillan said Ediciones curriculum products will complement its own publishing efforts, which currently focus on producing English-language teaching materials that are published by Editorial Macmillan de Mexico, a company founded by Macmillan in 1982. The company said it will keep the publishing activities of the two companies separate and that Ediciones Castillo will remain in Monterrey. "This investment reaffirms the strong commitment of Macmillan to Mexico, which we consider one of the most attractive developing educational markets in the world," said Chris West, Macmillan's regional director for Latin America.
