A book that will celebrate the 50th anniversary of the influential Sunday CBS-TV interview show Face the Nation, written by its longtime host, Bob Schieffer, was bought for S&S by publisher David Rosenthal. He signed for world rights with ICM's Esther Newberg, and will publish as a joint venture with CBS News next October; there will be an accompanying DVD with video highlights from the show.... Jonathan Karp at Random has signed a new book by bestseller Po Bronson (whose latest, What Should I Do with My Life?, isjust out in paperback). It's an untitled look, in Bronson's very personal style, at the challenges of family life today and was bought, North American rights, from Curtis Brown for publication next year.... What is billed as the last word on why President Bush must be defeated for reelection was bought by Dutton's Mitch Hoffman. It's Bush Must Go: The Top Ten Reasons Why George Bush Doesn't Deserve a Second Term by Bill Press, a syndicated columnist and MSNBC commentator. Hoffman bought world rights, plus first serial and audio, from agent Ron Goldfarband will publish in June, in time for the July Democratic convention.... Former Defense Secretary Robert McNamara has been casting a spell with his meditations in a new documentary movie called The Fog of War, so there was keen interest when agent Jane Dystel offered around a book called A Simple Man: Robert McNamara in Vietnam by former journalist and political and financial consultant Christopher Brown, based on countless hours of interviews, and access to notes McNamara hadn't used in his own memoirs. Scott Moyers at Penguin Press got North American rights in a significant preemptive offer.
