Amazingly enough, there are still veterans of the First World War among us (centenarians all), and a book that tells some of their stories was signed for Bloomsbury USA by Gillian Blake. It's called The Last of the Doughboys: The Oldest Soldiers Remember World War I and How It Changed Their Lives and America Forever. Author Richard Rubin (Confederacy of Silence), a regular contributor to Harper's and the Atlantic Monthly, interviewed a group of the veterans extensively (all lucid, and ranging in age from 104 to 114) and has discovered a range of surprising stories. The book was bought from Kris Dahl at ICM for North American rights.
