A pair of leading political journalists, Mark Halperin of ABC News and John Harris of the Washington Post, are combining forces to write a book examining the country's current political situation and the ways in which the media have helped to shape it. Random editor-in-chief Jonthan Karp was quick to sign the book, so far untitled, with agent Andrew Wylie and plans to publish in fall 2006, in time for the midterm elections. Halperin and Harris will offer a behind-the-scenes picture of the Republicans' fierce drive for power in the past four years and the Democrats' efforts to recover from their 2000 and 2004 defeats—all from the viewpoint of the media impact on the struggle.
