Popular novelist Barbara Kingsolver has signed again with her regular editor and publisher, Terry Kartenat HarperCollins, for a pair of books: a new novel and a book on how she and her family have embarked on a very special diet. Animal, Vegetable, Miracle: A Year of Food Lifewill tell of a year in which Kingsolver, husband Steve and daughter Camille learned, on their Virginia farm, to eat only food whose provenance they knew. "It's a secret natural history of foods," explained the author, and will be up first, in winter 2007. The novel, tentatively titled Notes to a Future Historian, will come later. It's an ambitious work spanning four decades, from the 1920s to the McCarthy era of the 1950s. Karten signed for North American and audio rights with agent Frances Goldin.
