Marvel announced last week Stephen King has agreed to create an original graphic novel project based on his Dark Tower series.

Marvel will release it as a six-issue comic book series beginning in April and will publish a one-volume hardcover collecting the series in the fall. King is the latest prose author to sign with Marvel. Among the notable prose writers creating comics projects for Marvel are novelists Walter Mosley, Eric Jerome Dickey, Jonathan Lethem and Charlie Huston.

A spokesperson for S&S, King's regular publisher, emphasized that the graphic novel is not the next volume in the Dark Tower series.

"King's a peripatetic guy with lots of projects on the side," said S&S spokesperson Adam Rothberg. "He loves to do new things."
