October means that the literary award season shifts into high gear. First up was the U.K.'s Man Booker Prize, which went to Kiran Desai for The Inheritance of Loss. Desai's U.S. publisher, Grove, released Loss in trade paperback in September. Other winners in the month included Orhan Pamuk (see People), who won the Nobel Prize for Literature, plus a number of Quills winners. Next up will be the National Book Awards, which announced its finalists last week.
