When I first heard that The Golden Girls' Rue McClanahan had a new memoir, My First Five Husbands... and the Ones Who Got Away (Broadway, Apr.), I was anxious to read about one of America's favorite actresses. What I found surprising was her incredible voice, which came through as she told of her life, marriages and the "amours" that got away. I always read galleys with this question in mind: "Would this book be discussible for the Pulpwood Queens' numerous book clubs?" My answer is yes! Her book was well written and gave a new voice to literature. I love to choose books written by famous people which are often incorrectly shrugged off as not being important books. This is one romp of a read. I was instantly smitten by her tenacity to overcome many obstacles regarding her private and public life. It's the perfect book for behind the scenes stories on theater, film and TV. I crown her book four diamonds in our Pulpwood Queen Tiara Wearing Rating!
