The reorganization of F+W Media’s operating structure into community-based units rather than the old book and magazine divisions is being accompanied by a ramped-up digitization effort that aims to have 3,000 titles digitized and in the company’s new digital content repository by the end of 2009, said CEO David Nussbaum. In addition to books, the repository will include magazine and original Web material. By focusing on communities rather than product, F+W will be better able to “serve all information into a marketplace,” Nussbaum said.

The writing community, for example, includes Writer’s Digest magazine, the Writer’s Digest Books imprint, the Market Book series, writersdigest.com, writersonlineworkshops.com, videos, CDs/DVDs and digital downloads, plus conferences and contests. The new structure will also give F+W “more interaction with each enthusiast group,” Nussbaum said.
