With the Dow Jones Industrial Average up 8.6% in July, 13 of the 16 companies on the Publishers Weekly Stock Index posted increases in their stock price last month, and the PWSI rose 5.8%. Although it was the big winner in July, Books-A-Million’s stock price fell back in the last week of the month after reaching a 52-week high of $11.76 on July 27. Scholastic’s stock price received a good bounce after it released its year-end/fourth-quarter results late in the month, as did Pearson following the release of its six-month results. Amazon’s stock price, while still rising in July, fell nearly 8% July 24, the day after it announced a mixed second-quarter performance that included no growth in its North America media group. Investors were not impressed by Reed Elsevier’s six-month results, dropping Reed’s share price over 12% when the first-half figures were announced on July 30. Source: Reed Business Information | |||
