To the Editor:

How disappointing to see that your publication not only chose 10 male authors for its list (PW, Nov. 2) but also brushed off the legitimate criticism that followed. When 10 out of 10 selected authors are male, you need not pat yourselves on the back for resisting political correctness (as if that is a virtue). You should, rather, be embarrassed at the clear bias undetected by you yet so obvious to others. To a literature professor, this smacks of the centuries-old notions that were used to defend the promotion of male texts and the denigration of female texts. In 2009, this is inexcusable.
