CIROBE cofounder Marshall Smith died on November 10 in Franklin, Ind., while returning from this year's show to his bookstore, Key West Island Books. He had stopped for the night in a hotel and died suddenly of undetermined causes. Smith's long career included many years as a traveling remainder salesperson covering the Southeast. In 1991 he and Bradley Jonas launched CIROBE, which became the country's premier remainder book show. He is survived by three siblings and their families, and by many friends both in and out of the book business.
