Peskin to Head FSG Books for Young Readers

Joy Peskin will join Macmillan Children’s Publishing Group on February 6 as division v-p and editorial director of Farrar, Straus and Giroux Books for Young Readers. She will report to Simon Boughton, senior v-p and publisher of FSG Books for Young Readers and Roaring Brook Press. Peskin has worked at Viking Children’s Books since 2003, most recently as associate publisher.

Amanda Cook To Join Crown

Amanda Cook, current executive editor at Houghton Mifflin Harcourt, will move to Crown February 6, stepping into the role of v-p and executive editor at the Random House division. At Crown, Cook will report to Molly Stern and will continue to focus on the categories she handled at HMH: science, history, current affairs, psychology, politics, and other social sciences.

Casemate Acquires Oxbow Books

Casemate Publishers has acquired the U.K.-based Oxbow Books Ltd. in a deal that also includes Oxbow’s the David Brown Book Company, headquartered in Oakville, Conn. The acquisition will broaden Casemate’s list beyond military history as it adds Oxbow—a leading U.K. publisher and distributor in the fields of academic archeology and ancient and medieval history—as well as David Brown, an importer of books in the academic disciplines of archeology, ancient history, philosophy, theology, and other related fields.

Scholastic Buys Singapore Publisher

Scholastic has acquired Learners Publishing, a Singapore publisher of supplemental learning materials for English-language learners. Terms of the transaction, negotiated by Scholastic’s Singapore subsidiary Scholastic Education International (Singapore) Private Ltd., were not disclosed. Since its launch in 2000, Learners Publishing has produced a list of more than 400 titles.

Buerkle to Join Kingfisher

Brian Buerkle will join Kingfisher in the New York office as associate publisher, director of marketing, beginning January 9. Most recently, Buerkle was senior marketing manager at Marshall Cavendish Children’s Books.
