Apple Appeals Price-Fixing Decision

Apple has filed its appeal of Judge Denise Cote’s July 10 verdict with the Second Circuit Court of Appeals. According to the filing, Apple is appealing Cote’s final judgment, issued on Sept. 6, including the court’s final injunction against the company.

MIBA, GLIBA Plan Joint Show ‘In Perpetuity’

The Midwest Independent Booksellers Association and the Great Lakes Independent Booksellers Association kicked off their second joint show, Heartland Fall Forum, in Chicago by announcing that the “two-year experiment” has been a success and that two associations will hold a joint show “in perpetuity.”

Nook Media Adds Two Executives

Nook Media has appointed two outside executives to its management team, putting them in charge of two distinct areas. Mahesh Veerina will become COO on Oct. 7, and Doug Carlson has been named executive v-p of digital content and marketing, effective immediately.

PRH Creates Unified Audio Group

Penguin Random House announced the formation of the cross-company Penguin Random House Audio Group, which will blend the responsibilities across the Penguin and Random House audio lists. The group will be headed by Amanda D’Acierno, who will assume the role of senior v-p, publisher at PRH Audio, Fodor’s, and Living Language.

Myers Named Director of UPK

Charles Myers has been appointed the new director of the University Press of Kansas. Previously an executive editor and group publisher at Princeton University Press, Myers succeeds Fred Woodward, who served as director since 1981. With this transition, Woodward continues at UPK as senior editor. Michael Briggs remains UPK’s editor-in-chief.

Rosenbaum Named Director Of University of Missouri Press

University of Missouri provost Brian Foster announced that David Rosenbaum has been appointed the director of the University of Missouri Press. Rosenbaum, who is currently the director of product development and project management for the American Heart Association, will assume his new role on Nov. 1.
