Did You Know That I Love You?

A rust-colored fox receives an unexpected declaration of love and devotion in Pierce’s children’s debut. “Did you know that I love you?” shouts a small blue bird from its nest in a tree, its words appearing in an enormous dialogue balloon. Pierce’s digitally crafted animals—composed of sleek, sloping shapes in solid colors­—showcase a range of strong emotions. Initially, the fox demurs (“Who, me?”), before striking an expression of pure delight, his eyes closed in blissful half-moons, as the bird continues her love song: “Did I show it in my kisses?/ Could you feel it in my hugs?/ Could you taste it in your tea?/ Did it warm you from the mug?” A sweetly assuring ode to unconditional love.
