The Donkey That Sneezed
. Oxford University Press, USA, $7.95 (32pp) ISBN 978-0-19-278211-3
Once upon a time, there was an old man whose three sons, Tom, Dick and Harry, were eating him out of house and home. He sends each out to seek his reward, but only the youngest, Harry, is clever enough to claim his prize and recover his brothers' lost fortunes. A crooked innkeeper tricks Tom out of a table that sets itself with fine food, and Dick out of a donkey that sneezes money. But Harry, who receives a magic stick, sets it upon the innkeeper, who soon gives back the brothers' treasures. This slim volume offers a lively version of an old, favorite story. Biro's prose is energetic, and her illustrations, if a bit cartoony, are appealing. (5-7)
