The Marine Corps 3x Fitness Program
Martin Cohen. Little Brown and Company, $5.95 (96pp) ISBN 978-0-316-15017-0
Exercise gurus come and go, but the Marines remain our most enduring apostles of fitness. How they achieve and maintain their lean muscularity at a peak functioning level is shown in this superior manual. The cornerstone of the Corps' fitness regimen for men and women, Cohen learned at Marine bases, is conditioning of the torso's upper and lower muscle groups as well as of the cardiovascular system. The title's ""3X'' refers to three primary weight-free exercise groups to be performed in three cycles on three alternate weekdays, a flexible system easily adapted by civilians. In addition to a series of progressive exercises, Cohen includes Corps methods for strength and body-fat testing. There's no double-talking excess here, just lots of common sense about true fitness.
