Enter Wild: Exchange a Mild and Mundane Faith for Life with an Uncontainable God
Carlos Whittaker. WaterBrook, $17 trade paper (208p) ISBN 978-0-525-65400-1
Worship leader Whittaker (Kill the Spider) challenges readers to slow down and find God’s plan through prayer in this empowering work. Whittaker posits that every Christian “can wake up every single morning and sprint into a day filled with miracles, signs, and wonders.” His first step to finding this zest is to give oneself more daily time for prayer: “Lower the volume of life, and the volume of God’s voice goes up.” He suggests bringing more “stillness” into one’s life by getting rid of chaotic daily schedules and offers prayers for getting specific with God about desires and struggles. His second step is to “enter war,” which requires readers to “pray the promise” instead of “pray the problem” by concentrating on solutions rather than dwelling on struggles. He talks of the many “weapons” one has at their disposal, including acknowledging impulses that can cause others emotional pain and anxiety, experiencing the Holy Spirit, and finding forgiveness, particularly of oneself. Whittaker is at his best when talking about his own process of developing a “wild faith,” one fraught with debilitating anxiety but also spiritual highs achieved through prayer. Readers of Levi Lusko will love this inspirational prayer guide. (June)
