Open Wide!

“Open wide for the airplane”—many babies have been subjected to this dinnertime ploy, and like many, Krensky and Burks’s cowlicked hero isn’t having it. While Sam’s mother tries to tempt him with a spoon outfitted with red wings and fuselage, his father pantomimes animals for additional encouragement: “These carrots will make you hop like a bunny!” Burks nails Sam’s glowers and frowns, as well as his parents’ increasing frustration, which disappears once they discover that Sam just wants to take matters into his own hands.
