A Passion for Cats
. David & Charles Publishers, $0 (207pp) ISBN 978-0-7153-8971-3
Commemorating the 60th anniversary of Britain's Cat Protection League, this lavishly illustrated volume is a treat for ailurophiles. It is comprehensive, including information on such diverse subjects as homeopathic medicine for moggies, photography, basic care and feeding, building and operating a cattery. Feline-interest stories abound--a licensed cat-sitter recounts her experiences; another contributor tells about mountain climbing with his Siamese; there is a brief piece on the beloved Paddington cat. One chapter describes CPL policy: all strays over six months old are sterilized, and the league makes follow-up visits to adopted cats. There is a section on breeding and preparation for shows, on pedigreed and feral cats, an A-to-Z dictionary of ailments and diseases. But it is the stories of individual cats and their portraits that charm and captivate. (Aug.)
