The Conviction to Lead: The 25 Principles for Leadership That Matters
Albert Mohler. Bethany House, $22.99 (224p) ISBN 978-0-7642-1004-4
In his latest book, Southern Baptist leader Mohler identifies 25 principles that he believes affect a person’s ability to lead well. While the title does not indicate that the book is aimed at Christian leadership, it is not surprising that Mohler, the president of the Southern Baptist Theological Seminary in Louisville, Ky., clearly ties his premises to biblical beliefs and emphasizes the importance of these principles to Christians in positions of leadership. From the outset, Mohler states his desire to change the fundamental thought processes of modern leaders, convincing them to focus on a purpose rather than a plan. His comprehensive analysis includes reminders of well-known examples of successes and failures in leadership, and many of his opinions are accompanied by references to personal experience, historical incidents, or biblical events. While he asserts that these principles are essential for effective leadership, he acknowledges that simply possessing some of these attributes will not guarantee an ability to lead. This is a solid resource for the Christian leader looking to hone the skills required to motivate and inspire others or for those questioning their ability to get the job done.
