All-Year-Round Knitting for Little Sweethearts: 68 Patterns for Everyday, Parties, and Special Times
Hanne Andreassen Hjelmås and Torunn Steinsland. Schiffer Craft, $29.99 (200p) ISBN 978-0-7643-6507-2
Hjelmås and Steinsland, founders of the KlompeLompe knitting brand, present in this gorgeous collection garments that can be worn for “all sorts of reasons and in all seasons.” There’s an impressive array of patterns: summertime sees a balloon romper for babies, a pullover for children, and a “summer-sweet skirt” for adults, while winter calls for mittens, socks, and a pine cone sweater with variations for adults and children. A section devoted to Christmas showcases baby overalls, a floppy elf stocking cap, and a blue “Fredrik Sweater-Jacket,” and crafters can make a white turtleneck sweater and a children’s hat with bunny ears for Easter. Each pattern is labeled by difficulty level, and the projects range from quick and easy, like the level 1 “Large Crafty Cap,” to more intricate pieces such as the level 3 “Olivia Christening Dress” with buttons and a waist tie. Beginners will want to master the basics before diving into these patterns: there aren’t step-by-step photographs or introductory guides to the stitches. Experienced knitters searching for inspiration, though, will find it in no short supply. (Dec.)
