THE FENG SHUI OF ABUNDANCE: A Practical and Spiritual Guide to Attracting Wealth into Your Life
Suzan Hilton, . . Broadway, $14 (336pp) ISBN 978-0-7679-0750-7
In this engaging and straightforward guide to the feng shui of the checkbook, former certified public accountant Hilton promises to deliver willing readers to the coveted "River of Gold." She devotes early chapters to the ground rule basics of the Chinese art of placement, including now familiar counsel about how clearing clutter also clears up the mind. She moves on to detail a hands-on program designed to aid in the creation of spaces (both literal and metaphorical) that are harmonious and lucrative. Each section ends with "Action Steps." These include locating a "Wealth Area" in your home and decorating it appropriately, as well as more ephemeral tasks like gauging your physical responses to the "flow of financial energy." Readers may raise their eyebrows at some of Hilton's notions—e.g., the dangers of transacting business in places of expansive windows (high rate of "leaking energy"), or of having a bathroom in the "wealth area" (energy goes "down the drain"). But for those who perhaps do not cotton to the earnest practicality of many personal finance guides, Hilton offers a different and warmer perspective, albeit fuzzier at times. In general, the book steers away from the complex realities of money management as Hilton's interests lie primarily in helping her audience come to terms with creating and accepting plenty in any and all of its forms
