The Best Natural Homemade Skin & Hair Care Products
Mar Gomez. Robert Rose (Firefly, dist.), $24.95 trade paper (288p) ISBN 978-0-7788-0502-1
Naturopath, nutritionist, and author G%C3%B3mez (The Best Natural Homemade Soaps) is back with her latest foray into the world of homemade beauty products. As with most beauty recipe books, G%C3%B3mez provides recipes for different skin and hair care products, including shampoos, face and body creams, numerous types of oils, scrubs, makeup removers, ointments, and balms. However, the book distinguishes itself by placing its focus on 23 natural oils and then breaking the recipes down by oil type. This helps provide a deeper understanding of the oils themselves, and is more informative than recipes alone. G%C3%B3mez tries to further educate readers with tips, notes, and caution boxes scattered throughout the text; the information they contain is often repeated from recipe to recipe, perhaps required in a reference book but tedious if reading cover to cover. However, the recipes are straightforward and the results are satisfying. Not all of the oils and other ingredients are easily accessible, but the majority should not prove too difficult to track down. G%C3%B3mez caters to a wide audience, addressing various skin types, hair types, ages, and beauty goals. (July)
