Blitz: An Autobiography
Tom Jackson. McGraw-Hill/Contemporary, $0 (271pp) ISBN 978-0-8092-4662-5
One of the premier linebackers in pro football for 14 seasons, Jackson played a vital role in helping the Denver Broncos reach two Super Bowls in 1977 and 1987, for his teammates consistently voted him the most inspirational player. Here, with the aid of former newspaper columnist Paige (Orange Madness), he describes those 14 years, which constituted an amazing record of longevity as a linebacker. Perhaps since he has now retired, he does not hesitate to air his likes and dislikes, to characterize former Denver coach John Ralston as an incompetent, ex-owner Edgar Kaiser as a money-grubbing hypocrite and player Jack Tatum as a sadist. But he is generous with his praise, too, for John Elway, Dick Butkus, Charley Joiner and many others. A candid and readable volume. Photos not seen by PW. 35,000 first printing; $35,000 ad/promo.
