The Dinosaur Eggs
Francis Mosley. Barron's Educational Series, $9.95 (32pp) ISBN 978-0-8120-5910-6
An elderly English couple, Alfred and Mary Watkins, come across three large eggs, out of which hatch dinosaurs. They raise the dinos like children, bathing them, reading to them at bedtime and sending them to school. The creatures' size soon becomes troublesome in the cramped urban neighborhood, so the family moves to the country. Because they have had such a happy childhood, the dinosaurs decide that they will now look after Alfred and Mary, and they all live peacefully together. The potential humor in the story's premise goes largely untapped; the text and illustrations are flat andexcept for a few funny scenesrestrained. Readers' expectations of chaos and hilarity will remain mostly unfulfilled. Ages 3-7. (April)
