Sea Songs: Il
Myra Cohn Livingston. Holiday House, $14.95 (32pp) ISBN 978-0-8234-0591-6
With a brilliant economy of words, Livingston tells of the various aspects of the sea, as reflected in the sun and the moon. The power of the waves, the creatures within the sea, the bright beaches, the depths of the ocean where light of neither sun nor moon entersall are captured by the poet's pen. The imagery is so potent that one almost needs no pictures, but Fisher's striking paintings are a lovely addition. He depicts the moodiness of the sea in illustrations that shift from dark and mysterious moonlit nights to bursts of colorful umbrellas and sails lit by the sun. This is a fourth collaboration between poet and artist; as always, a superb blending. (58)
