Stirling Moss: My Cars, My Career
Stirling Moss. P. Stephens, $0 (304pp) ISBN 978-0-85059-925-1
Arguably Britain's most famous racecar driver, Moss made his reputation in the 1950s and early '60s, and here relives his days of stardom. Interested in sports and a markedly inferior scholar, he entered his first race in May 1948 and less than a month later earned his first victory. He started in 66 Grands Prix and won 16 of them, driving everything from Coopers and Aston-Martins to Jaguars and Lotuses. Much of the text is analysis of the strengths and weaknesses of the cars and comparisons between them. There are also tips on driving techniques and many excellent photographs, most in black and white. Moss and his British coauthor have written a comprehensive volume, but it is probably too specialized for lay readers. (March)
