Cambio Chameleon
Mauro Magellan. Humanics Publishing Group, $10.95 (32pp) ISBN 978-0-89334-118-3
Lego the worm, Les Cargo the snail and various other animal characters populate the pages of these two books. In Cambio Chameleon , Cambio becomes ill and loses her ability to change color. She is afraid that her friends won't like her if she can't change from red to green to white, but learns what constitutes a true friend. In Home at Last , Lego searches for a comfortable home. After an unpleasant encounter with an ant colony, he meets some friends who help him find a house of his own. Although the underlying theme of both books is worthwhile, the text of each is pedantic. Magellan's full color and pencil illustrations, although well-executed, are overly cute. A stronger editorial hand would have resulted in more satisfactory books. Ages 5-10. (Feb.)
