Used by many pros, including football great Gayle Sayers, and amateurs, the program consists of eight workouts whose goals are building stamina, muscular tone, cardiovascular strength and self-respect. At the core of the progam are free-standing exercises, such as situps, pushups and sprints. (Woit disdains body-building machines and special diets.) While the author is short on explanation, he provides much motivation, and statements from those who have attended his workout sessions both amplify the workout instructions and act as testimony to his methods.
