Deep in the Forest: A Seek-and-Find Adventure

The French duo of Antòn and Brunellière creates a bustling forest for readers to explore in this oversize board book. Settingwise, it’s a mishmash: although the translation makes repeated references to a forest, the stylish artwork pictures something more resembling a jungle, and the animals (among them pandas, giraffes, and toucans) don’t live anywhere near each other in reality, which has the potential to confuse readers. Antòn pairs casual observations about the creatures with invitations for readers to locate particular animals in the images and under flaps. Brunellière’s expressive, high-contrast graphics provide lots of eye candy, even if the book isn’t of much use from a zoological perspective. Ages 3–5. (Mar.)
