Glory Seekers
Rebecca Brandewyne. Mira Books, $5.99 (472pp) ISBN 978-1-55166-276-3
Set in a steamy Gulf Coast city that harbors a wealthy Kennedyesque family, Brandewyne's (Dust Devil) latest is glitzy and well written, with just a touch of the gothic. Claire Connelly, an ambitious television reporter, and Jake Seringo, an embittered cop, have been studiously avoiding each other since an unpleasant scene following the brutal murder of Jake's wife 10 years earlier. But a series of unexplained deaths among the influential Hampton-Forsythes throws the two together again. While pursuing the scandalous truth behind the family's troubles, they are forced to confront their long-unresolved passion. If the mystery itself is more than a bit far-fetched, it does a perfectly adequate job as the vehicle for an absorbing romance. (June)
