THE BREAKUP REPAIR KIT: How to Get Over Your Broken Heart
Marni Kamins, . . Conari Press, $14.95 (165pp) ISBN 978-1-57324-919-5
Geared toward women in their 20s and 30s, this heartening little book is the perfect remedy for the friend who can't seem to get over her failed relationship. Kamins and MacLeod have no professional experience counseling others, but their candid accounts of their own breakups will strike a chord with the lovelorn. Their advice is occasionally too simplistic ("If you haven't got a gay best friend, get one") and overly spiritual, such as when they recommend "letting go of [your] fears and giving them up to the universe" by placing them in a "God Box." But these moments are offset by the authors' cheeky tone, soothing home remedies (like the Pumpkin Body Mask) and entertaining lists (Signs that your new relationship may not work: "You click your heels together and think, 'There's no place like away from here' ").
