Witch Doctor of Wall Street
Robert H. Parks. Prometheus Books, $32 (335pp) ISBN 978-1-57392-018-6
Parks, financial adviser and professor of finance at Pace University (New York City), worked on Wall Street for 25 years. This practical experience, combined with a theoretical knowledge of economics and a desire to call 'em like he sees 'em, has enabled Parks to offer accurate insight into the way Wall Street functions. He dispenses with the ``hideous jargon and irrelevant mathematics'' that his ``fellow witch doctors'' rely on. Here, he discusses the economic policies of Presidents Carter and Reagan, with an analysis of the reactions and interpretations of those policies by people on the Street. Literary and historical metaphors abound to create an understandable text. Parks illustrates his points with concrete examples that impart further clarity. Besides readers with a practical interest in the subject, this book is recommended to those who thought economics was a dry and dusty subject. (Feb.)
