Soul Survivor
Jeanne Glidewell, Five Star, $25.95 (256p) ISBN 978-1-59414-948-1
Cozy mystery author Glidewell (The Extinguished Guest) explores the concept of past lives in this engaging if shallow novel. Alarmed by her five-year-old daughter's odd outbursts, Zoe Robbins takes Skye to the local physician in rural Kansas. A child psychologist is called in, and he discovers that Skye is reliving the memories of 15-year-old Radha, an Indian girl who lived in Bombay in 1966. Determined to unearth the mystery behind Skye's past-life memories, Skye and her parents travel to India. Through Skye's memories, they are able to uncover truths to a mystery five decades old. While the character development lacks depth, Glidewell builds suspense with intricate plotting, creative flashbacks, and a touch of mystery and romance, making this a pleasant and memorable read.
